Growing up a farm boy in New Zealand Heath is no stranger to rugby and may be our most expierenced player. After leaving the farm to pursue an accounting career in Auckland Heath became agitated by the lack on sheep in the urban enviroment and took a job in the BVI where he was assured there would be sheep wondering freely through the city.
Before he left NZ he counciled with felow Kiwi and past BVI rugby star Willie Johnson who informed him, "When you get there just find Andrew Simmonds, thats all you need to know". Heath was able to locate Simmo almost immedialtly after arriving and he hasn't looked back since.
Having lived on the island for the past 4 years Heath has become a regular on many of the local sporting scenes. He plays squash, tennis, kabaddi, netball, patong, softball, synchronized swimming, tiddlywinks, hopscotch, waterpolo, fencing, soccer, cricket and ultimate frisbee. Heath is also very intererested in sailing, however I believe this interest is stoked by the promise of cold Heineken aboard the vessel.
Heath's pride and joy is his pure bred Austrialian Shepard who competes in the fiercly competitive Annual BVI Humane Society Dog Show. Heath wears his hair in the style of the breed to show his support for "Groundhog".
We expect big things from Copland in the 2011 NACRA Caribbean Championships. He has talked of retiring after this season but I'm sure all that will go out of the window when a Trinidad tours appears on the cards.
