Youth Rugby in the BVI

BVI RUFC has recently employed the first ever full time rugby development officer. This has allowed the development of programmes in and out of the schools. Rugby is a relatively unknown sport in the BVI youth but the children are enjoying this competitive non-contact team game and already the next BVI international players are being identified!

Schools

Over 200 children in Tortola’s schools are playing tag rugby on a weekly basis. Tag rugby is a non contact version of rugby enjoyed by all ages and is fast, fun and exciting. The children have developed the basic running, passing and catching skills whilst learning the rugby ethos of sportsmanship and teamwork. A schools league is set for 2008; this will allow the children to truly develop their skills in a competitive nature. Check the news, fixtures and events section for upcoming youth games and tournaments.

Saturdays

Saturday mornings from 9am until 11am a rugby session is run at Althea Scatliffe School. This is free and open to everyone. If you have never played rugby and would like to give it a go come along and try it out. Turn up and play tournaments are held throughout the year so watch check the news, events and fixtures section for upcoming opportunities to play rugby.

If your school or organization would like to learn to play rugby do not hesitate to use the contact section and a programme can be arranged
